Sorry, defending its citizens from foreign attack IS a legitimate purpose of our government, and the spending on can be justified. Looting and redistributing trillions of dollars of its citizen's productivity for the purpose of buying votes--the vast majority of Federal spending--is not a legitimate purpose of the government.
