The explosives security hole is a major one, particularly if the bomber is willing to be blown up with the plane (luggage matching security measures would be useless in that case.)
Fortunately, detectors are available that can find the type of explosives powerful enough to both severely damage a plane and still fit in a suitcase. There are also dogs trained for this.
