In a crowd of wild animals, I will pay more attention to the lions than the rabbits.

Too much of anything is not good. From caffeine shakes to vitamin A poisoning to protein deficiencies among vegans -- it turns out that we can even be too clean! (Not enough exposure to dirt causes allergic reactions.) Politics and civic life are the same.

So we agree: extremes are bad. So why are business and industry so virtuous that they ought to be allowed to police themselves?
