You are 100% correct, Dan.

Commercial news is just entertainment by another name. It's a means to bring in advertising dollars. And all news sources are in direct competition with all other news sources.

The only quibble I would have with what you said, is that this is not a new phenomenon. It has been going on ever since one guy figured out a way to make $ from reporting, and another guy decided to do it too.

Did you ever see the film, 'The Front Page'? Very funny.
