I'm under no illusions that I'm immune from attack, but I have a firewall in place, my Microsoft software set to maximum security (except for a few trusted sites), and the Norton utilities tracking my system. I've also unlinked certain bindings in the network per advice from the Gibson site.
I'm no expert, but I've done what I can, and I've been lucky so far. Seat belts don't make you immune from car accidents, but they're still a good idea.
And yes, I do have a lot of faith in the computer community out there, which tends to be individualist and resistant to Big Brother tech.
