Forgive me, Tom, but I am a poor Aussie "liberal"... seems most of us Aussies have no idea what you Yanks are on about with minimum wage issues.
Personally I think the average worker has been sold out by big business for the past +25 years. Big mergers, big money and most of us don't benefit. Every lay-off and downsize hurts us all because it reduces the overall cash pool for the average person. To be a consumer society, consumers need a wage.
