"The bottom line is, (DeWine) lost money, like everybody else,'' said Mike Dawson, spokesman for the Republican senator.

WASHINGTON
Sen. Mike DeWine's family business lost about $53,000 last month when the value of its Enron stock collapsed.

The revelation is the first indication that any Ohio lawmaker had financial interests in the Houston energy giant, which filed for bankruptcy in December.

The company's financial problems have sparked investigations by the Justice Department and Congress into Enron and Arthur Andersen, which audited the company's books.

Three other Congress members from Ohio are giving up campaign contributions from Enron.

Republican Reps. Deborah Pryce of Perry Township, Pat Tiberi of Columbus and Bob Ney of St. Clairsville said yesterday that they plan to donate their Enron money to a fund designed to help the thousands of company workers who lost their jobs and retirement savings.

According to a study of campaign- finance records from 1989 through 2001 by the Center for Responsive Politics, Pryce received $2,000 from Enron; Tiberi, $1,000; and Ney, $500.

DeWine and his family join a legion of investors who lost millions of dollars when the stock plummeted.

Then ask yourself why the Enrongate non-scandal is still on the front pages of major newspapers across America days after most conservative opinion makers pronounced the story dead due to lack of substance.

... It's simple. In the Democrat media machine's headlong rush to torpedo the Bush presidency, the facts just don't matter. Worse still, so far at least, the White House shows little indication that it comprehends any of this.

Well, it appears in my “major newspaper” saying people lost money, and certain Republican recipients of campaign contributions from Enron are turning these same funds into a trust for the hardest hit in this “non-scandal”. Enron employees who are suddenly looking for work.

The probe will happen, and that’s all that will happen. The democrats are finished with the war on terrorism and are now looking to clear Slick Willie’s -- I mean the Democrats’ -- soiled rep by strong-arming the government.

Enron = a sad day for its employees, but otherwise a non-event for the White House.

We’re back, and on Capitol Hill, it’s snafu time,
Dan
