Rumors about Osama bin Laden’s medical condition circulated after the al Qaeda leader appeared haggard, frail and barely moving his left hand in his latest videotape, broadcast last month.

WASHINGTON -- Source
Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf believes Osama bin Laden is dead of kidney disease because he was unable to get vital medical treatment while hiding in caves.

Musharraf acknowledged the terrorist's trail had gone cold but said there is no reason to hunt him in Pakistan.

"I think now, frankly, he is dead for the reason he is a patient, a kidney patient," Musharraf told CNN yesterday.

He said he had information that bin Laden took two portable dialysis machines into Afghanistan -- one "specifically for his own personal use."

U.S. officials were doubtful about Musharraf's claim.

I seem to recall rumors of his condition starting when he road off to the hills on horseback before the bombing ever started. the report at the time stated his was "ill."
