What Netanyahu has always wanted is perzackly what the Palestinians want: revenge. The political polarization in the part of the world is so great that it will take a herculean effort to establish any sort of peace or harmony.

Benjamin Netanyahu, at the gut level, wants to punish the Palestinians for the death of Lt. Colonel Jonathan Netanyahu who died in that mission to rescue the hostages in Uganda at the Entebbe Airport way back in 1976. The Palestinians want to punish the jews for letting the Romans defeat them 63 c.e. They also want to punish the Western world for the British Balfour Accord that set in motion the U.N. esatblishment of the State of Israel in 1948.

We are involved because our interests are at stake here. Our interests harken back to American property and other interests. Many of the citizens of Israel were also American citizens by birth. That our national interests are involved was enunciated by the policy statement of President William Howard Taft back in 1912 when he said, " Intervention is justified when it was made necessary to guarantee the captial and markets of the United States." This gives Americans the precident to stick our noses in every part of the world and ignore the soverignty of any nation as it pleases us and protects our Coca-Cola signs.

Our historic involvement precludes us from being able to broker a peaceful solution--so who is available to do this?
