Not to my knowledge

Since you can <a href=http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-3364665-100-8105033.html?tag=new">download the Netscape browser for free, I doubt the company charges computer vendors anything should they include it with their systems. Of course, if they bundle any of their other products then there probably would be a royalty.

Microsoft allows people to download Internet Explorer for free along with some other things. The same isn't true for their operating systems.

Of course, you can use other browsers besides just Netscape or Microsoft. Gee, all of these alternatives makes me wonder if Microsoft really has a monopoly after all.

The same applies to operating systems given that people can buy computers that use MacIntosh OS X, Linux, Tru64 Unix, AIX, Solaris, etc. Many of these choices are available even for personal computers. For example, my home computer has a dual-boot capability between Win98SE and Mandrake Linux 8.1. Aren't user choices the very antithesis of a monopoly?
