My Uncle Paul was a POW in Korea

Now, if we were treating the prisoners the way he was treated, then I'd complain. Not too many people know that at least 25% of all Americans captured in the Korean War died in captivity. They were subject to physical torture, mental brainwashing, starvation, and just about every other form of privation. In the months following his capture, my uncle personally buried an average of 25 American POWs every day who died in captivity. Those Americans captured by the Japanese in WWII suffered the same treatment or worse, as did many of our POWs in Vietnam.

In no way does the treatment we're giving those prisoners in G'tmo resemble what my Uncle experienced, nor does it resemble how American service personnel would've been treated had they been captured in Afghanistan. Furthermore, even international law is murky regarding the treatment of guerrillas and other irregulars like terrorists. We're not talking "Hogan's Heros", folks. Some of these prisoners compare to our hardened criminals in maximum security prisons and are at least as dangerous, perhaps more so since they aren't afraid to die.
