The next round at the polls might change his view of what the people he's supposed to represent want him to do -- or they'll just vote him out. Of course this would require a large number of outraged ex-cons who still hold their right to vote as something dear.
Sometimes is best NOT to make a name for yourself in politics. Keeping office because you're name was on the polls last time and the voter can't associate it with any reported scandal will get you a better than 50/50 shot at reelection.
