True; however...

It could be argued that the JSF is essentially the stealthy strike fighter the Navy originally wanted.

So, a specific system may not survive, but the requirement remains, and usually the sevices ultimately get some system to satisfy that requirement.

I don't know what we're doing for divisional AD, but we are probably a lot less worried about Hokums now than 15 years ago. The Soviet threat has evaporated, and anyway, the Army is moving away from the big heavy divisions which the Sgt. York was suppposed to protect. As it is, I think we wound up with about 50 Sgt. Yorks.

Cheyanne was cancelled, but the Comanche survives.

I don't know what's going on with a P-3 replacement.

Finally, the XB-70 was cancelled but we've certainly not stood still in heavy bomber development with the B-1 and B-2, although these came along later, and as you know, the B-1A was cancelled by Pres. Carter, only to be resurrected by his successor Pres. Reagan.

It should be pointed out, too, that sometimes the services get weapons that they don't want.

At any rate, I agree that some systems get cancelled or terminated, but very seldom does the requirement go away, and often a new system is already on the drawing board as the old one is axed.

Your link to the Sgt. York shows that about $6 billion had been spent on failed AD systems of this type, although certainly not all of it by the U.S.
