Re: Winter Olympic Games

<(Why should I be the first to mention those games??)

Could it be because a Belgian made one of the opening speeches? ;)

My 14-year-old was delighted with the French. "I understood most of it!!!"

Another reason you may have been first is that I'm already sick of them. My boss wants to do 2 solid weeks of Olympics-related activities at the library, and that means primarily children's stuff along with viewing opportunities at various places in the building. (We have 4 cable outlets, so we'll be showing broadcast events for 2 weeks.) I'm printing off B&W flags for kids to color even as I write this. We've been talking about the Games every day for a month. So I'm ready for this to be over already, even though the Winter Games have long been my favorites. The Summer Games are a competition of people against each other. The Winter Games include the factor of environment in a way that the Summer Games, with their indoor tracks and pools, can never match.

You're right: the opening show was stunning! At hundreds of dollars a ticket (did I hear between $600 & $800?) it had better have been!

Mary Anne
