<Rogge also sent a letter to Russian president Vladimir Putin, but apparently it did not soothe Russian sentiment, which is that these Olympics are tilted in favor of North Americans.

A not-so-veiled attack on the U.S., seeing as United States competitors have raked in 30 medals to Canada’s 10 and Russia’s 14 -- though we still trail Germany’s 33, and can see that Norway is close with 21 medals.

Country Gold Silver Bronze Total
Germany 10 16 7 33
USA 10 11 9 30
Norway 10 7 4 21
Austria 2 4 10 16
Russia 5 6 3 14
Switzerland 4 1 5 10
Canada 3 1 6 10
France 3 4 2 9
Italy 3 2 4 9
Finland 4 2 1 7
Netherlands 3 4 0 7
Sweden 0 2 4 6
China 1 2 2 5
Croatia 3 1 0 4
South Korea 2 1 0 3
Bulgaria 0 1 2 3
Australia 2 0 0 2
Spain 2 0 0 2
Estonia 1 0 1 2
Czech Republic 1 0 1 2
Japan 0 1 1 2

Too bad the Olympics were so obviously designed for real competitors -- like the old USA and USSR (whoops!). Who knows? The whiners might catch up.

Cheers,
Dan
