This is a prime example of what I call "political gas," or high-sounding phrases that sound good but really don't add up to mean anything.
Mr. Kucinich did vote for the authorization to use military force against those who attacked us. I'm not sure exactly what he thought this meant, but it sounds that, like many liberal airheads, he thinks that you could somehow generate a massive military operation without injuring someone, breaking something, invading another country, or spending money.
Just out of curiosity, how the hell did Kucinich THINK we were going to take out an international terrorist organization when he cast that vote? Write them nasty letters ordering them to turn themselves in?
I have no problem with being vigilant about potential abuses of individual rights. As just two examples, the National ID Card is trying to sneak in the back door as a "nationally standardized" drivers license, and the draft is raising its ugly head in some quarters. Totalitarianism is like grease ants...coming in any tiny crack you leave open.
I just don't think Kucinich is adding anything useful to the effort. In fact, I'm sure that if we were talking about the left-wing brand of massive state power, he'd be all for it.
