Actually I now say that Clinton was right and I was wrong about Bosnia. We WERE able to save lives and prevent bloodshed without costing large #s of American lives, as Clinton said and I doubted. C'mon, if the senator were not disengenuous, he would have asked the same questions re Bosnia which is YEARS old. He didn't. We've only been in Afg for a few months. Bush stated that this war woud not be a quick fix. I said that I felt that a legit, purposeful discussion of exit strategy is fine but we can see from the points I raised that it's simply a rant against the administration.
I would agree with your Vietnam caveat that we need a purpose. Now that some initial objectives have been achieved (roust the Taliban & Al Queada forces) we need to consider future objectives. I for one do NOT favor the use of US forces as peacekeepers and policemen. That's a good way to (a) get even more hated and (b) get our folks killed. In that aspect I agree we need an exit strategy. I would push for UN Troops (non European) while the locals rebuild their society. That is an example of a constructive approach to end game.
