My wife and I did our taxes last night. Gotta cough up some more dough (d'oh?), roughly the equivalent of a fairly nice laptop.

Ugh.

My brain, for some reason, chose that moment to speak up:

Think about the space program, my brain says. You really want to see the Nuclear Systems Initiative succeed. Guess you'd better put up or shut up, and we both know you ain't gonna shut up...

And then there's all those Americans in (all manner of) uniform, risking their lives for you. Can't short-change them--now or ever...

"Ok, ok," I say, just wanting my brain to shut up. "Where's my checkbook..."

Stupid brain.
