One of the Arabs arrested in Thursday's raids is believed to be Abu Zubaydah, a key lieutenant of bin Laden.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan -- AP
Police arrested at least 16 Arabs, Afghans and Pakistanis in the latest in a series of raids against suspected al-Qaida hide-outs, a senior police official said Tuesday.

The suspects gave up without serious resistance during the operation Monday night in Lahore, the local police chief, Javed Noor, said by telephone.

All of them came to Pakistan from Afghanistan illegally in recent months, Noor said. He refused to give further details pending completion of the investigation.

Islamic groups in Pakistan have long been suspected of helping Taliban and al-Qaida fugitives sneak into the country after the fall of Taliban rule in Afghanistan.
