Looks like another MAJCOM is coming to town
Peterson AFB in Colorado Springs is already home to the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), Air Force Space Command (AFSPACE), Army Space Command (ARSPACE), and US Space Command (USSPACECOM). Today, Rumsfeld announced the plan to establish Northern Command (NORTHCOM) and to headquarter it at Peterson. The new MAJCOM (major command) will be in charge of the defense of North America.
Peterson isn't the only military base here in the Springs. We also have Fort Carson, Cheyenne Mountain, the Air Force Academy, and Shriever AFB.
