Think about it. One incident, then a 57-year break, and then four collisions within a 7-month period, of which the first 2 were terrorist attacks, and the 3rd a copycat. I think perhaps even the report of a mayday may have been fabricated. Under the circumstances, national security might demand it. Perhaps Italy is not prepared to fight terrorism, or react to unprovoked attacks? Who knows.
Footnote:
(I also recall reading about a small aircraft collision with a wind turbine tower a few years back. The plane had run out of fuel and was attempting an emergency landing in extremely dense, heavy fog, which completely obscured the wind turbine from all directions. Definitely an accident. Everyone on the plane was killed, but the turbine tower was undamaged.)
