I've stared at this for a while, now.

At first I thought, "Why not? What's to lose?" But then there's not only history, but what a "peacekeeping" force would do.

One, the Israelis would take out a "peacekeeping" force which didn't protect the encroaching settlements. There's history -

During the 1967 war was a time when Israel was heavily dependent upon the US for about everything, including survival. During that war an American intelligence ship (USS Liberty in international waters was deliberately and repeatedly attacked by Israeli forces, killing 34 people. The probable reason was that the Liberty would find out how the Israelis were enlarging the war and the US would have put the clamps on them. Remember, the USSR "sponsored" many Arabian nations, the US helped the Israelis, and both had nuclear weapons. It was a very tense situation.

So, they "took out" the Liberty, killing Americans.

Two, on the other side, if the "peacekeeping" force protected the settlements, well, it just doesn't seem worth it. Already, the US is perceived (correctly) as being in Israel's pocket. The US may want to keep what credibility it has left by letting others be a part of whatever "peacekeepers" are used.

And, it's entirely possible it would be the best idea in the world.
