Now that a number of liberals and Democrats have managed to criticize the Bush administration without getting their heads bitten off, it's going to be open season. The Washington Post opens up with barrel one and barrel two.
The Democratic battle plan is that nothing...NOTHING of Bush's agenda will get past the impenetrable wall of the Senate. Meanwhile, Bush can be simultaneously lambasted as "doing nothing" to solve our problems as his legislation rots in huge piles in the Senate inbox. The Democrats can be assured that this obvious inconsistency will not be pointed out by their flunkies in the media.
Trade bills, energy bills, security bills, have and will all hit this wall. Many of them are never even allowed to come up for a vote in the Senate.
The coming attempt to keep our tax cut in force is going to be shredded in the Senate like a pigeon being sucked into a jet inlet. The spectre of the destruction of Social Security if--God forbid--more money stays in my pocket, will, of course, be raised. The fact that the tax bill and Social Security have nothing whatsoever to do with each other will not be addressed by the press or anyone else. All they have to do is frighten their captive voters.
One can see that the Democrats will have one single priority this fall: Maintain control of the Senate. They will do whatever it takes. I would hate to be any Republican going up against a sitting Democrat in a Senate race, because every dirty trick in the book is going to be played.
The Democrats can't count on finding another "independent" like Jeffords to change the results of an election for them.
To defeat the Left politically requires a precise, consistent, and solid philosophy based on the primacy of the rights of the individual. The Left in our country has a solid philosophy: collectivism. They are far more consistent in supporting their philosophy than the political Right is in supporting theirs. The conservative politicians come to the fight with one hand tied behind their backs, because they have accepted--for political reasons--many of the collectivist points of view, and can't effectively fight against their opponents for that reason. If they did, they would probably be libertarians instead of conservatives.
Joy in the liberal media...
