I guess that means Democrats are for increased death

First of all, the Bush Energy Plan calls for both conservation efforts and for increased domestic energy production. The conservation efforts include $10 billion over 10 years in tax incentives for "hybrid vehicle purchases, methane gas development and solar power cell installation." It also calls for increased domestic energy production using coal, natural gas, and nuclear power. None of those are under the control of big oil.

There are varying estimates on how much oil is in ANWR, partly because the environmentalists don't want anyone to actually find out how much is there. There are credible estimates that we could get as much oil from ANWR each year as we import from Saudi Arabia. That's hardly an insignificant amount, unless you like being dependent on countries like Saudi Arabia.

As for "Democrats are for increased death", a report by the National Academy of Sciences last year implicated increased CAFE standards with over 2000 additional highway deaths each year. Raising the standards even further would almost certainly lead to a bigger increase in highway fatalities.
