Re: a better analogy

The fact that you think that capitalism breaks down to capital and labor shows that you are still floating back in the '30s somewhere. The Marxist concepts of capital and labor are left over from an age where "labor" meant only those people lifting something with their backs or swinging a pick and shovel. "Capital" meant someone who owned property because their great-grandfather was awarded it by the king. A vast majority of the wealth in our nation has been earned by people who were not wealthy to start with, and most of the workers are skilled individuals who work with their minds more than their backs.

Never mind. I'm not going to try to bring you up to speed on theory. You might want to check up on the relationship between coercive monopolies and government power.

Suffice it to say that nations that have used free market capitalism have thrived--from their wealthiest to their poorest--directly in proportion to how free their systems actually were. Nations that have used central planning have stagnated and decayed into inevitable totalitarianism in direct proportion with how centralized their systems are. Every last person is poverty stricken in a collectivist nation, except for a few political leaders.

Given this history, a reasonably bright person might be concerned about whether our own nation is moving towards freedom, or towards centralized control. My own observation is that we are slowly and steadily moving toward centralized control and that we have to put on the brakes and turn around.

My concern is not so much that we have government spending and control at all, it's that we have it growing beyond all reasonable bounds.
