<Israel Approves Retaliation For Bombing
Is Sharon riding the tiger, with no way off now that he's started?
The Sharon Doctrine, "If it doesn't work try it harder" seems to be at work. If they hate you now, do whatever you can to get 'em to hate you more.
Will his present actions breed the future reactions? Can he kill 'em all?
(I think, in my heart of hearts, that Sharon likes killing people.)
Can the US learn the lesson?
Now, they went almost 4 weeks without a suicide bombing, and the Israelis pulled out of some town, and invaded more. Didn't stop.
What would some Palestinian preaching moderation be able to say? What case could he or she make for stopping their hostilities.
If you think the Palestinians started it all over, it hadn't stopped.
I can hear someone saying that it didn't do any good to stop, so why not take a few of 'em with us? As much as I believe the suicide bombings are reprehensible, and the people who make them need to be caught and convicted, I can understand the despair behind it.
Now, any maroon with some C4 and a box of nails can create a situation where Sharon will invade and brutalize God knows how many people. Without affecting the ability of the next maroon to blow him or herself up.
Regarding the lesson, can the US track 'em all down, get Saddam because GWBs Dad didn't, move on to the island countries with a Taliban presence, then over to Iran, Syria and Libya, installing puppet regimes everywhere? Stable puppet regimes?
Would our actions create another superpower, China, as nervous or threatened countries formed political alliances with her to protect from the US?
It helps me to remember that Osama is still at large. Not that that's anyone's fault, God knows they've tried. The point is we can't find 'em all, let alone kill 'em all.
And, if they don't have a land for us to occupy, if we can't kill 'em all, maybe we'd want to try something which would have a chance of working. Maybe we would want to learn from Sharon, whose doctrine, however macho, tough, and appealing it is, just seems to guarantee the next round of violence.
After all, there were almost 4 weeks with no Palestinian suicide bombers, and the Israelis just kept going.

Can the US learn from Sharon?
