I recall a passage from 'Lawrence of Arabia"...
...that said something about Lawrence having a terrible time keeping his Bedoin allies from firing guns at their own airplanes. It wasn't so much confusion over whether the planes were enemies as it was that they just thoroughly enjoyed shooting at planes.
Obviously, this has nothing to do with Dan's story. I just couldn't resist the connection.
