<Now, Tom. Do you think the Israelis could stop this just by living up to the agreements they have signed?
The quick and dirty answer: No.
Short of cutting their own throats, or marching onto ships en masse and heading west, there is not one damn thing the Israelis can do for the radical Palestinian factions that will make them stop killing women and babies. Nothing.
Now follow that to a conclusion.
How many of those 50 civilians in Nablus were combatants? None. Killed along with 25 people shooting light weapons at the Israelis. One IDF person dead. What does a slaughter look like? Would protesting this with an attack on the other guy's civilians be something an attacked people might do?
Okay, assuming the casualty figures, which I have seen nowhere other than from an entity which has already been proven to lie about such things, are accurate:
Nablus was a battlefield, with people--non-uniformed people--shooting back at the Israelis. I guess it doesn't count if you use "light weapons," since they only make small holes in your vital organs. It should be noted that armed Palestinians deliberately select civilian camps as their fields of operation. Every dead civilian is a propaganda victory.
At least to their credit, these Palestinian combatants had some balls and were shooting at a superior enemy military, not sneaking into town and blowing up kids.
An Israeli attack equivalent to the Palestinian terror attacks would be the Israelis waiting until 3:00 in the morning, and dumping nerve gas into a building full of sleeping people that they were absolutely certain contained no combatants, bomb factories, or terrorists.
There are no tanks, soldiers and guns in an ice cream parlor.
And how would you do it? I mean, how would you fight an invading army, and invading people, when you weren't allowed an army, armor, artillery, helicopters?
Apparently no one on the radical Palestinian side is capable of figuring out how to kill a target that doesn't have a pacifier in its mouth, or walks with a cane. Could these mighty warriors at least TRY to blow up a goddam tank once in a while?
In the history of resistance movements during WWII and other wars, many people have had to resist enemy armies, armor, and artillery without having any of those same things at their own disposal. They blew up bridges, and mined roads where armies and tanks moved. They sabotaged military equipment, and cut power lines to military camps. They used snipers to shoot at uniformed soldiers.
I have never heard of the French Underground, or any other European resistance movement sneaking into Germany and deliberately blowing up ice cream parlors full of women and kids as primary targets. Not unavoidable collateral damage: primary targets.
