"Them" v. "Us"

“Them” and “Us”

The snooping on everyone shouldn’t be surprising. All that’s surprising is the awareness of some people that it’s not just what they think of as bad guys who will be snooped upon.

There is a serious problem with having a government which feels free to violate the rights of “them”. Even though it's always in the interest of truth, justice and the American way.

Not a suspect, but still a detainee, U.S. won’t release or deport Ivory Coast man.

It sounds attractive to go after “them”. “They” deserve it, “they’ve” asked for it, and “we” need to do that to protect ourselves.

Clearly “we” are in the tent. “They” are outside the tent, “they” are bad guys, don’t deserve any protection.

What people might want to understand is that they aren’t in the tent, either. It holds the government. We, the masses, are “them” to the authorities, too. That's hard to believe, but true.

The NRA sees any accountability in the ownership of guns as spreading to the banning of possession of those weapons, and attacks such restrictions on all fronts.

A bigger threat is the violation of civil rights by the government. Once it starts, it can continue at will. And it always starts with an unpopular “them”.

I do not understand the reasoning of the ACLU more often than I do. And, thank God for ‘em. The infringements which lead to oppression of everyone always start with an unpopular “them”.

Arf

PS Don't think it was a liberal plot that drove this. Not anyone wanting to know how the US intelligence system missed another pretty obvious scheme. Seems to be the Republican AG with the approval of the Republican president. I don't think reasonable folks would suspect a liberal plot. Honestly.
