Might have been a few.

"How many famous whistleblowers were already in some kind of trouble before they started blowing the whistle?"

Kind of a tough situation here. I think the kind of person who would become a whistle-blower is a pain in the rear, anyway. Sometimes it's hard to see if they have a legitimate issue, too.

Tend to be very competent, though.

In the case of this lady, she clearly wouldn't have been fired at this point if she were at all proficient. Laterally transferred or placed on administrative leave pending resolution, that's the most they would have done. They may have made life hell for her later, but not now.

I'm sure they do not want a lawsuit charging another form of discrimination. They MUST have had her "cold" on the proficiency issue as compared to the other translators.

It's gotta be hard to find people fluent in those languages who have easily checked backgrounds, though. I saw an interview with Mohammed Atta's father, and he seemed sincere in his description of his son as a peaceful guy. I'm sure he would have described him as such to any investigator.

(I'm reminded of Ronald Reagan's first ambassador to Italy. On the fact sheet all appointees fill out there is a question, "What languages do you speak?"

Answer - "English (fluent).

Thank God!)
