I noticed that the "Left Behind" books are based largely on the Book of Revelation - that part of the Bible always struck me as the product of someone who got some bad mushrooms...

From Chapter 4: "7 In the center, around the throne, were four living creatures, and they were covered with eyes, in front and in back. The first living creature was like a lion, the second was like an ox, the third had a face like a man, the fourth was like a flying eagle.
8 Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under his wings."

I know, it's all symbolism, but still - pretty weird stuff.

An interesting (possible) astronomical reference, from Chapter 6: "12 I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red,
13 and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as late figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind.
14 The sky receded like a scroll, rolling up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place."
