How we can condone one form of killing and condemn another. It’s ok to kill soldiers but not ok to kill civilians. It’s ok to bomb a city into rubble but not burn it to the ground. It’s ok to shoot, stab, frag, torch, strafe, and blow to bits the enemy, but no poison gas, no bio weapons, no nukes- that would be unethical. It’s ok to kill the enemy with a weapon in his hand. It's not clear what to do if he drops it. He’s still the enemy.
Maybe the American Indian was on the right track. They had policies like scalping and death by a thousand cuts. Unfortunately, the thought of capture wasn’t enough to deter war.
