I thought some of the questions were phrased a bit oddly, and that someone doing a quick read would get them wrong. If that is true, many of the 10s, 11s and 12s should be counted with the 13s. Which is still very poor. While I was a 13 also, I could easily have been an 11 or 12.
Having said that, it makes sense that poorly informed people would vote for the party which trumpets family values, less debt, and smaller government. That it's actions have no relation to those public pronouncements would be harder to see and ignored.
I think Republicans in general should thank God and all the angels and archangels assembled for this ignorance.
