Human attention span is shorter still.
This being a fact of nature, no resolution will be found for global terror. We will constantly come up with far more pressing matters, but pressing only because the people have come into recent, direct contact with whatever the comparatively trivial issue might be. And so, Sept 11, 2001, will be swept aside. If America loses sight of its goal in tracking down and destroying al-Quai’da and similar Western threats (sorry, but that’s where I live), I think you'll be able to find Sept 11, 2001, propped in a dusty corner of the history books, and as early as 2005, labeled simply "An American Failure" -- and so it would be, on enough levels to rival that of the World Trade Center itself.
I say, raise my taxes, pay my militaries, and get it done already!
