Maybe your rage, after extracting your revenge on the individual, will look beyond his crime to the prevention of the same pattern in other children's lives so they will not grow up to kill.
Too late for your child, too late for your child's murderer, but not too late for somebody else's child.
Forethought is kind of the point of having a forebrain.
