Three Cheers for Spain!

<"Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar has pledged in the Spanish Parliament that Spain will "always" support the United States in the fight against terrorism, CNN's Al Goodman reports.

He said Aznar's aides strongly indicated that Spain would back a U.S. military intervention in Iraq, even if it happens without U.N. approval.

Aznar told Parliament on Wednesday, "We will always be with those who, like us, fight for the cause of liberty and against terrorism."

This is great news. While long considered europe's poor relation by certain europeans - they are actively taking the threat seriously and are not afraid of losing some money in the short term.

You can also read into this a VERY important sub-story. Saudi King Fahd - has his vacation home in Marbella. Naturally as the Saudis and the Spanish are very close - you would expect them to hold similar views on Iraq.

Spains words, are really a secret code to the international community that Saudi Arabia really "always" will support the US actions.

Chirac has awakened to the threat a bit. Only the posturing, farcical, electioneering rhetoric of Schröder is left as a EU roadblock and becoming more irrelevant as folks realize he is just pandering to the Greens - and many of their young, green haired, immensely body pierced, gender-confused crowd*.

*This is not some unsubstantiated rhetorical flourish - indeed I do know some German folks who fit this description - exactly. ;-)
