But I'm not really sure that an American attack on Iraq would do much of anything to the German economy. For that reason, this sounds like it is just "what-if" a scare piece.
I certainly don't see the connection between digital camera purchases and war.
In fact, I think that in the not-so-long-run, that the war would help improve the world (and German) economy as a Liberated Iraq would enter the international trade/marketplace offering a great new market for European business interests.
For the war to adversely affect the German economy, there would be several events that must occur:
1. The war must go poorly for the United States and her allies which results in
2. A prolonged war and
3. An interruption in the free flow of oil from Iran, Saudi Arabia,
4. Russia decides not to fill the oil production void
5. The United States doesn't respond to high oil prices by mandating the use of alternatives wherever possible
6. The higher oil prices are sustained for a long period of time, or more likely
7. Sadam acquires the technology to make a large NEO strike the center of Europe
I think all of these are extremely unlikely. I think Sadam's military will turn on him once it becomes clear the United States is serious about saying Tah Tah Sadam.
