The New Republic article seemed to be quite critical of Democrats for urging caution before engaging in unprovoked aggression upon a nation which is not a threat to the US.
Much of what I wrote was a poorly set up pun on "New Republic", the name of the publication.
The "New Republic" we call the US threatens aggression upon small countries, and holds it's own citizens indefinitely without charging them with a crime or providing legal representation (could argue they don't need it, they ain't going to see a courtroom). Y'see, holding a person forever is OK IF they are convicted of some crimes. And if they aren't, the US I love doesn't keep them in solitary confinement forever.
The "New Republic", both the publication and the nation, has some parts of it which are tragically cruel, harmful to the health of the nation, the states, and innocent civilians all over the world.
The "Old Republic", with it's habeas corpus, with a Constitution which meant something, a Bill of Rights which protected citizens from an unreasonable government was better.
That's it. Sorry I didn't set up the pun better.
