He must be furious with Al Gore for daring to start the 'Gore in 04' campaign on this issue. And before the Mid-term elections too.
Daschel probably agrees with me for the 1st time ever: Gore is to reckless to be President. Gore isn't going to do what's good for America or even whats good for the Democratic party. Gore only cares about what Gore wants. Gore is centered on Gore.
Gore put the whole issue front and center when most Democrats were wishing it would go quietly away. Now Daschle has to stomp, pound, and yell to cover his own political flippity-flops on this issue. Does he yell at Gore? No. (Well maybe in private). Now he yells at Bush...Because he must.
Tommy D's only hope now is the old Democrat tactic of divide and conquer. They've been doing it since the Civil War when Democratic politicians in New York encouraged the Irish to attack blacks who threatened to take their low paying jobs. Gore has made the game into a US vs. UN fiasco.
The Democrats must tie themselves to the UN because the only other alternative is to tie themselves to Sadam Hussain. Now the Democrats muat hope that the UN sides with the American public or else the Democrats must attempt to bring the American public more in line with the UN. Good luck on either score.
