They locked the damn gates, Tom

Hence the name "lockout". And, in a charming tribute to the Good Old Days of the Pinkerton strike-busters, PMA brought in armed guards.

What more do you want?

I dare say this is more than you make at the library. It's more than I make now. It's more than I made at my highest salary position as a company founder and rocket engineer. Hell, it's more than the CEO of our company made.

I dare say it is. :) Yet I don't feel envious of people who are a little -- well, all right, a lot -- ahead of me. Does this mean that you'll start criticizing overpaid CEOs whose only claim to fame is having had a very good idea once upon a time? After all, those who command capital make a whole lot more than dock workers, and they labor a whole lot less.

Dock workers work. They are laborers in the truest sense of that word. If this is the wage they can command, are you saying that they should settle for less because they're union? I don't think so.

Unions are labor's response to "free market forces". Labor was capital's doormat before unions. I'm surprised you think they should lay down and die because they play hardball, but that everyone should get out of capital's way. Why?

Dock workers are apparently trying to get rich. It's the American way. You have a problem with that?

Mary Anne
