The problem is Saddam is literally underground in a fortress-maze.

People will die in such an assault, ours and theirs - but probably many less than the collateral damage of conventional war.

It's nice to fantasize about Saddam's men dropping their weapons and pointing the way to Saddam's door - but that's unrealistic.
