Let's see - here is a GAY liberal mayor getting knifed.

The guy who did it is a devout Muslim. He says he hates gays and politicians. Islam condemns homosexuality. That doesn't enlarge the definition of "Muslim" to include "potential stabbers of gay people". Or of mayors either.

When that guy Whozits shot up a women's clinic and said he did it because he hates abortion and its providers, no one was surprised to find he had connections to the Catholic Church. Yet the Catholic Church has not been identified as a terrorist religion or Catholic Americans as being especially prone to shooting people who work in women's clinics. Even though all the major characters in Tom Clancy's novels are Catholic.

The one thing on which I agree with you is this: Ignorance is at the root of this behavior. Ignorance enhances poverty (limiting opportunities), undermines hope, and makes people more susceptible to manipulation by demagogues, religious and otherwise.
