But:
He has a familiarity with guns.
He has a familiarity with gun, no plural. The bushmaster piece retrieved is nearly identical to the M16A1/2 he was trained on -- well, actually “familiarized with.” He was a driver, and not an infantry driver. Truck driver. REMF of the first magnitude, toting supplies and personnel from point A to point Z, and all points in between.
