Try reading the accident report
Here's the report from the NTSB. Her son was flying the plane. He lost attitude control under instrument conditions and crashed. It appears he lost the attitude indicator on the pilot's side and was unable to successfully fly the plane with a partial panel despite the fact that every pilot going for an instrument rating has to demonstrate partial panel work. In the real world, flying partial panel is harder and deadlier than it is in training.
