The unpleasant truth is that the only way to insure that Iraq does not build an arsenal capable of wrecking the entire Mideast and supplying terrorists worldwide, is to put Saddam's head on a pike, along with whatever part of his leadership is necessary. It's that simple. Nothing else will work.
Whether the best way to do this is a conventional military attack, a covert assassination, or encouraging some kind of home-grown revolt can be legitimately argued. As it currently stands, assassination has been ruled out (too bad), and encouraging revolt did not work at all well after the Gulf War (Bay of Pigs, anyone?)
It is nonsense to think that we can shut down a covert weapons program in a nation the size of Texas by wandering around with teams of inspectors. We might catch out nuclear projects this way, but never biological ones.
We will never get a "safe" Iraq from pieces of paper with Saddam's signature on them. Period.

Neither, actually...
