I was using an extreme example. The point I was making was that any political gathering will collect extremist hangers-on at any public demonstration. Pointing them out should not necessarily reflect on the larger gathering, any more than the skinhead types at the gun shows mentioned by Mary Anne should reflect on the majority of gun owners.
However, one should pay attention to those who have been arranged to be at these demonstrations in a formal manner, such as invited speakers. An anti-Semitic slant from speakers, or other presentations that have been specifically set up by the organizers, implies sanction on the part of at least the organizers, although again not necessarily everyone who shows up at the demonstration.
I'm a little leery about neo-Nazis at a table at a gun show, since things like display tables have to be generally formally arranged with the organizers, and if so maybe their minds are a little more open than they need to be.
I lost a lot of my enthusiasm for the formal Libertarian Party when one of their conventions had a big NAMBLA table there.
