If Marxist and socialist professors were the exception, rather than the rule, you would have a point. Also, such radical academics are usually strongly and explicitly supported by the academic administrators. Same goes for extremist environmentalists, which are currently in the driver's seat of the movement, and attract almost exclusive attention from the media and policymakers.
These guys aren't at the edge of their crowds, they are in the front, leading the way.
