<Chechnya brings down another bird

Russia has demonstrated that it lacks a sophisticated 21st century airforce with smart munitions and SOTA battlefield awareness technology.

Helicopters should be verboten when your enemy has access to sophisticated stinger type weapons and has proven competent in aiming and using such weapons.

The Chechnyans are a resilient and resourceful foe. However, the fabled Red army is putting in a disappointing Vietnam-like performance where the soldiers are unmotivated, undisciplined and wary. Russia has a poor human-value system in place and from the way they let the Kursk folks down to the theatre fiasco - they seem to have lost that "all-for-one" spirit - that comforts a soldier and tells him that his comrades are going to be there for him if he falls down. The ruthlessness and decisiveness by which they put down the Hungarian uprising is gone.

That may be good for the world - but not for the individual soldiers of the Red Army.
