The conflict in Chechnya goes back before the Communism era.
And Stalin massively deported Chechnyans who, in the 60's slowly returned back to their homes.
From 1991, there were 2 or 3 years of peace with Moscow and it was meant for Chechnyans to decide what they wanted to do with themselves. There civil unrests started among factions who wanted to either stay within Russia or completely cecede. The Red Army came in and massacres followed. The situation got worse.
The Chechnyans are muslims but they are Caucasians (not arabs) who's cause has nothing to do with Wahabis who are the most dangerous Islamists. If there are training camps in Chechnya for Al Qaeda, wasn't there one found in Florida too?
The world is much more complicated than what we believe.
