I can appreciate that he would be useful alive for al Qaeda. I wouldn't argue with anyone that says he wants us to think he is dead but it makes no sense.
I can see why we can't declare him dead but it seems that we are all but overly ready to accept the audio tapes as proof of life. I don't think voice printing is infallible.
You could argue that he serves a purpose for us by being alive at the brink of war with Iraq, or not, depending on your viewpoint. Anyway you look at it his existence can cut both ways
Until I see unassaillable evidence to the contrary, he is dead.
